A NEW CENTRE FOR LEWISHAM

A NEW CENTRE FOR LEWISHAM

After a four-year journey, Lewisham’s Planning Committee met on Thursday 16th October to review our proposals for the future of the shopping centre. We’re pleased to share that the committee voted in support of our plans - a significant milestone for the project.

This isn’t the final step in the planning process. The application will now be reviewed by the Mayor of London before Lewisham Council makes its final decision. Once approved, the next phase of work ahead of construction will begin.

We’re incredibly grateful for the support we’ve received so far. This development will help transform the town centre, and we’re committed to continuing our work with the community and our partners as we move forward.

Landsec has been part of Lewisham for over 20 years, and our proposals have been shaped by conversations with more than 3,000 local residents and workers.

We’re proud that the plans have been carefully phased to ensure the shopping centre remains open and trading throughout the regeneration - so people can continue to shop and enjoy the town centre as work progresses.

A NEW CENTRE FOR LEWISHAM
A new centre with:
A PARK AND MEADOW BIGGER THAN A FOOTBALL PITCH
A lush wild meadow on top of a completely reimagined shopping centre. Family playgrounds, over 300 new trees and thousands of plants with plenty of spaces to play, sit and relax.
A new centre with:
MORE CHOICE OF SHOPS, RESTAURANTS, CAFES AND BARS
We heard loud and clear that locals wanted more places to eat and drink. This new vision for Lewisham is filled with bustling shops, cafes, restaurants and bars open all day and into the night. Where the old Model Market used to be will be a brand-new street food square filled with places to eat from local independents. We will capture all the old spirit of the market in this new version, and even retain and reuse the bricks.
A new centre with:
THOUSANDS OF NEW JOBS AND A £160M BOOST TO THE LOCAL ECONOMY EVERY YEAR
A new centre with:
A NEW LIVE MUSIC AND CULTURAL VENUE
Lewisham has a proud music heritage through old music venues like The Odeon Cinema with iconic performancesfrom The Beatles, Stevie Wonder and David Bowie in the 60s and 70s. Today’s town centre doesn’t cater in the same way. A brand new 500 capacity music venue with multiple performance, rehearsal and production spaces for local creatives, will change all this.
A new centre with:
THREE NEW PUBLIC SQUARES
The Northern Square will be a dedicated social hub for the community with lots of areas to gather for events. Lots of greenery will fill this space and will be delivered in the first step of the new town centre.
A new centre with:
A REVAMPED NEW SHOPPING CENTRE
A new centre with:
THOUSANDS OF HOMES FOR ALL
Across the new district 1,700 new homes will be created with a minimum of 20% allocated for key workers and affordable rent. Alongside this a further 660 student and 445 co-living residences will be part of this new place.
A new centre with:
SAFER STREETS FOR WALKING AND CYCLING
The new town centre will have walking routes from street level up to the new meadow and beyond. The People’s Platform will allow you to pass all the way through along stairs, lifts and a viewing gallery. We’ll also be improving connections for pedestrians and cyclists between the High Street and into the Shopping Centre all the way over to Molesworth Street.
